Impression Die Lady Schmetterling

This fascinating design depicts a woman whose hair mimics the visage of butterfly wings. From Unger Brothers out of Newark, New Jersey during the late 19th century. We named this design "Lady Schmetterling," because we learned that the German word for "butterfly" comes from the word for "cream." It was believed that witches turned into butterflies to spoil milk!
