The columbine or "granny's bonnet" flower is a woodland perennial that grows at higher altitudes in the northern hemisphere. It's Latin name, Aquilegia, means "eagle" and is in reference to the flower's bloom, which is hooked like eagle talons. They're an important food source for Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) and bees. The columbine has been popular in religious symbolism since the time of the Greeks and Romans when it was associated with Aphrodite and Venus. It was used to represent the goddess Freya in Norse religion. It is still used in Christian imagery because of the flower's resemblance to nesting doves. This design is perfect for compacts, watch cases, trinket boxes, and more! Design: 1-15/32" diameter
